Outer Banks Real Estate

During a time period when many real estate agents have been struggling due to a sluggish economy, Matt Myatt has learned to use a variety of tools to stay on top.

So far in 2010, he’s already sold a lot in Southern Shores and has another lot sale pending in Frisco. Other deals are cooking too, Myatt said, as he works his territory from Carova to Hatteras Village.

He did so well in 2009, that he was named the Sales Agent of the Year by Village Realty Outer Banks, with offfices in Corolla, Nags Head and Columbia, North Carolina.

According to Myatt, one key to his success is accessibility.  He carries his Blackberry smart phone every where he goes. That way, he can stay connected to his clients whether by phone, text or email.
“One of my secrets is response time,” Myatt said. “Some of my clients are amazed at how quickly I get back to them.”

The smart phone enables him to be available seven days a week, 24 hours a day, he said.  Some would say it’s glued to his hip. “It never leaves my side,” Myatt said.

A 2002 graduate of Elon University, he said a background in computer information systems also helps him in other ways when it comes to technology based marketing.

Another secret to his success is image.

Myatt likes to portray a successful look and so far, that’s worked for him.
He drives a 2008 Yukon XL Denali because it gives his clients plenty of room and comfort when looking at properties, Myatt said. The vehicle’s tag displays the Elon logo.

And it’s no secret that potential customers judge their agent’s level of success by what they drive.

As for attire, Myatt’s “beach preppy” look includes polo or golf shirts, khakis and flip flops when it’s warm.

Myatt admits he always wears his trademark “shades,” which are sporty Costa Del Mar sun glasses.

Although he has three or four pairs of the same type, Myatt said he’s worn a certain pair for the past year since sales have been strong for him.  “I just keep wearing the hot pair,” he said.

Somewhat superstitious, Myatt said his wife Jenny teases him when he wears a favorite shirt when he meets clients.
As for Jenny’s take on the smart phone and non-stop work week, Myatt said she tries to take it all in stride.

They try hard to set a side quality time to be together, but when a client calls, Myatt admits, he goes back to work.

“She understands,” he said. “You’ve got to do what you’ve got to do.
“We just try to work around it,” Myatt said.
