SHAG OBX Weekend Supports Community Care Clinic of Dare

Dance Lessons, Local Artists, Live Music and DJ’s this May 7-9, 2010



MANTEO, North Carolina (April 23, 2010) – If you love beach music and dancing, you’ll want to take advantage of shagging with the best at the Outer Banks’ newest dance event, SHAG OBX this Mother’s Day Weekend, May 7-9, 2010. On Friday night, shag to your favorite hits with DJ’s David Jones and Ed Timberlake, with a special exhibition by champion instructors Sam and Lisa West. On that Saturday, take shag lessons during the day from the West’s and line dance lessons with Sharon Jones from the Outer Banks Shag Club before hitting the hardwood to beach favorites and a live performance from Jim Quick and Coastline that night. On Sunday, come to “Gospel Shag” at 9:30 a.m.

OBX SHAG is also hosting an art show on Saturday, May 8th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on-site at Pirates Cove during the dance lessons, with local artisans and crafters displaying and selling handmade pottery, clothing and jewelry. SHAG OBX is sponsored by the Outer Banks Visitors Bureau in partnership with local businesses to benefit the Community Care Clinic of Dare, which serves the needs of the uninsured and underinsured on the OBX.

The beautiful waterside venue for SHAG OBX is Pirates Cove Pavilion and Marina in Manteo, centrally located for the gorgeous beaches, great local restaurants and unique. You can purchase tickets locally on the Outer Banks at Gray’s Department Store in Kitty Hawk, Garden Deli Pizzeria of Manteo, or BJ’s Carolina CafĂ© of Jarvisburg. Tickets are $45, whether you come to one or all of the weekend events. The price includes entry for shagging on Friday (4:30-11 PM), and for Saturday afternoon/evening (again 4:30-11 PM)… Gospel Shag is free for all on Sunday, with our without a ticket. The lessons are $10 each (there are two Saturday shag lessons offered, one at 10 AM and the other at 2 PM; line dance lessons from 3-4 PM).
